Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy

We are very aware of the inherent risks in root canal therapy and the theory of the focal point of infection. Although root canals are not 100% successful we do believe there is such a thing as a successful root canal. To achieve more successful results we use the latest and most up to date techniques, materials and equipment when treating root canals.

Predictable thorough debridement and shaping of the root canals is done using rotary endodontic instruments. The use of endosonic instruments removes debris from the canals and keeps the dentinal tubules surrounding the canals patent. This allows bactericidal medications and our PAD laser to eliminate bacterial contamination further into the tooth beyond the canal itself, providing a more biologically sound result. To fill the canal we use a calcium hydroxide sealer prior to obturating with heated gutta percha from our thermafil unit.

Following your root filling, where needed, we bond quartz fibre into the root canal with a specifically designed core material to restore strength to your tooth, prior to final restoration.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
